Expats call for Pattaya clean-up
A group of foreigners is working with officers to improve life in the resort

A group of expatriates in Pattaya have joined a network aimed at making the infamous city a better place to live and do business.

Twelve of the network's 15 members, mostly business figures, met Crime Suppression Division (CSD) officers recently to discuss what one of them called the "cancerous" crime levels in the resort town.

Pattaya has struggled to shake off its image of crime and vice, much of which comes from foreign mafia groups based there.

The meeting of the expats and police was arranged by Pol Lt Col Natthapong Trongthieng, inspector of the CSD 2nd sub-division.

"We had to go to them or we wouldn't understand their problems. It's our job to serve not only Thais but foreign communities as well," he said.

He said many expats married locals and raised their families in Pattaya, so the police should listen to their problems.

Pol Lt Col Natthaphong said the idea of police meeting foreigners derives from the "Community Policing" concept initiated by Pol Lt Gen Pongpat Chayapan, commissioner of Central Investigation Bureau.

"It is part of the police's job to work with the community," Pol Lt Col Natthaphong said.

"There is not only a Thai community in Pattaya. Many foreigners also live with their Thai spouses there. It is our responsibility to listen to them," the inspector said.

So far, 15 foreigners have joined the network, including nationals from Denmark, France, Belgium and India.

The group has also invited Jusmag Thai, an American unit which takes care of US soldiers in Thailand, to get involved.

At the recent meeting, the expats identified the jetski scam run by mafia-like operators on Pattaya beach as the most critical issue for tourists, the police said.

In the scam, people who rent jetskis are forced to pay inflated sums for repairs when they return the craft.

The jetskis already have superficial damage before they are rented out, but the customers tend not to notice as the damage is usually on the underside of the craft, obscured by water.

Pol Lt Col Natthaphong said most of the victims want to avoid making further trouble with the gang, so they pay up instead of seeking help from the police.

The police said the problem has gone on for a long time and officers have struggled to find a practical solution.

Pol Lt Col Natthaphong said two jetski and speedboat operators in South Pattaya have been identified as members of extortion gangs.

"Foreigners are active in these gangs. They can speak many languages. We are now working to bring them to justice," the police said.

Pol Lt Col Natthaphong suggested the jetski scandal could be solved by compiling an operator list, separating the legal and illegal groups and collecting evidence to catch the perpetrators.

"The police work must be done step by step.

"Sudden enforcement may initially scare away the wrongdoers, but they will finally return to the business. We are trying to bring as many honest operators on to our side as possible," Pol Lt Col Natthaphong said.

Charun Pongwuthitham, a 48-year-old jetski operator who has run his business for more than 10 years, said he agreed with the foreign community's participation in helping to curb crime in Pattaya.

Mr Charun claimed some foreigners collaborated with jetski operators in extorting money from the tourists.

He agreed that a list of jetski operators needed to be drawn up and they should be required to insure their craft against damage.

The establishment of the foreigners' network is a good idea, said 64-year-old businessman Niels Colon, who participated in the talk with police.

It will encourage direct talks over problems and could lead to clear solutions, he said.

"Pattaya has many problems. There is still a language barrier between the police and foreigners. It is good that the police are now paying attention to these problems," he said.

Another foreign participant, who did not give his name, said problems may drive tourists away from Pattaya to the other resort areas.

That would have a negative effect on the city's businesses, he said.

He added that he and his friends in the network would deliver information about crimes to police in a bid to support the officers in enforcing the law.

I think the BF is B700 for the show girls, ie, the girls in the jacuzzi. The waitresses can show you a hand-printed card with the rates.

Did Agogo bar hopping last night at Walking Street... based on research from here as well as from www.pattayagogos.com, covered the following places based on recommendations; Bacarra, Supergirl, Superbaby, Babydoll, Happy, Bacarra, Dollhouse, Living Dolls, Peppermint in this order....would have covered more places but was abit high from drinking all the beer and whiskey by the time I finished at Peppermint.

From my experience last night, seems like Bacarra is currently the most happening place, in terms of girls and crowd. Because I started out at Bacarra, my expectations were set at that kind of standard, and the rest of the places pale in comparison to Bacarra. All the places were packed with lots of Japs. One of the girls mentioned that there will be lots of Japs and Koreans coming this week due to some holiday, wasn't sure...but guess its good business for Bacarra as the major customers from Japan.

Anyway, I ended up back at Bacarra in the middle of the bar hop because I was disappointed with the selection at the other bars. Decided to get 2 girls to seat with me, one SYT and the other taller and more OL looking. They were not the best lookers in Bacarra, as most of them kanna BF already by the loads of Jap customers there. In fact when I was walking back to Bacarra, saw many of the pretty WLs from Bacarra walking with Japs in hand. They were easily the prettier girls around Walking Street.

Back to the prices....ST / LT in Bacarra is 2000 / 4000bht, excluding BF is 600bht. So cost wise easily the most Ex in WS. At the other places, average quote for ST/LT were 1500-2000/3000-3500bht excluding BF.

Decided to splurge for a change cos I only have one night here, so took the 2 girls for a ST tarma (since they had good chemistry together), with the promise that we go Hollywood after that. One stupid rule in Bacarra is that I had to pay the bloody BF and ST upfront, and as a result didn't have the leverage to dictate what happens after that. Anyway, the tarma was alittle disappointing, no lesbian act, and they took turns to service me rather than do it simultaneously. But what pissed me off is that after the session, they decided it was too early to go Hollywood and wanted to go back Bacarra instead, and said they will go with me tomorrow if I visit again (yeah right). Didn't want to spoil my party mood so sent them packing.

Decided to continue my exploring after that. I realise that there are many carrotheads worse than me...haha. At Happy, there was this asian (i think HK or PRC) that bought all the girls in the house a LD (prob about 20 in total)....and places like Bacarra and Peppermint had customers buying buckets of pingpong to throw it to the WLs. Made amusing entertainment though as the girls all scrambled to grab the pingpong balls.

I realised that the smaller agogo bars provided better service, unlike in Bacarra where it's crowded and if you don't look jap, they kinda blow you off. At other bars, once u walk in you will be escorted directly to a table, and they will wait to take your order and explained the drink prices patiently . The girls or hostess will come and chat with you, and are not too pushy for drinks. At Bacarra, I had to find my own seat, or stand around and wait till someone comes and serve me. I was never approached by any girl unless I gave them eye contact or requested for them. I asked my 2 girls why i received such bad service initially, and they replied that I looked like kun thai (knns). At least the service staff were not pushy with getting new drinks even when I sat for quite long compared to BKK Bacarra.

It was because of this good service that I stayed at Peppermint the longest. It was almost 1am by then. Had 2 hostess sat with me, and had a good time there. Initially was pushy for 2nd drink, but when I said I wasn't buying anymore, they still stayed with me as there were not many customers. Service staff even came and entertain me with magic trick...haha she deserved the drink I bought her. Had really good time with both hostess, but could only pick one to bring back, so chose the one that I had more chemistry, and was frenching me during the whole time I was there. The other was more reserved but prettier. Kinda of regretted not taking the other after I saw my girl without make up in my room...haha. We didn't even discuss LT prices, gave her 2500bht in the morning and she took without complaints. She wanted to sleep in but I had to kick her out cos I needed to do things today.

Been a great experience for my first time in Pattaya. Now I really wonder why go Soi Cowboy and Nana when you can have more fun just 2hrs away from BKK. If there are more hot bars like Pattaya Bacarra, I wouldn't even chiong agogo bars in BKK anymore. A pity the prices are starting to match BKK agogo, esp the popular ones.

The more crowded the bar the higher chances you'll find gals with attitude. They made 2k off you, go back they can still find a Jap/Kor who pay them 4-6k LT. Then make excuse to leave early and go clubs/disco or thai karaoke or tom bars

You want more wild and can accept 7s look, can try babydoll, windmill and x-zone

I thought the website (link above) was really useful, cos they had the drink prices and BF prices, as well as which are the top recommended places to go.

Some places came highly recommended like Babydoll and Supergirl / Superbaby. But last night when I was there, really can't make it, quantity and quality Asked the girl why and they said because it was raining, so quite afew girls were too lazy to work.... so sometimes it really is time and place. Unfortunately didnt have much luck yesterday with some of these places.
