I currently have Eczema which symptoms are very closely related to HIV
eg; red/purple patches, itchiness. I do practise safe sex but are there any chances of complications between these 2 being confused or mistaken. I thought that i have HIV for a second after reading the symptoms in this forum. But i do not have any signs other than my current skin condition at the leg and armpit. Like diarhoea for a week, weight loss..........etc; Is this also another STDs? I'll be making a trip down to see a doc for STDs soon but at the mean time can any bros shed light on this issue. |

Re: Eczema & HIV
You may visit the DSC website for more information at the Q & A section. Eczema is not known to be a transmission point for HIV. It is a skin condition. Please read up the FACTS of HIV transmission mode...cheers!

Re: Eczema & HIV
Eczema is a skin disorder. Try looking under the national skin center website. Hope this helps.

Just consult your friendly neighbourhood GP. The usual prescription is triderm or similar drugs, and used daily, it should clear up after a few days. To ease yr mind, just get a blood test on HIV...with eczema, it could be a life long condition. Hope this helps. |

a) Eczema is an autoimmune disorder. But unlike HIV, it is not caused by viral infection. It is more of a genetic disorder. There are generally 2 types: Allergic Dermatitis, and Contact Dermatitis. AD is caused mainly by diet, lifestyle, and aeroallergens. CD is commonly caused by direct skin contact with substances that you are allergic to (e.g. detergents, fragrance, etc.) b) People with Eczema tend to be more susipitable to other allergic conditions, including allergic rhinitis (hay fever), Irritable Bowel Syndrome (diarrhea, etc.), and allergic conjunctivitis (itchy eyes). c) It has not been established that eczema relates to increase risks in the transmission of the HIV virus. Unless, the eczema is bleeding (not crusted), and comes in direct contact with infectious blood/body fluids. But chances are low. Especially given the location of your afflictions. d) Symptoms of AIDs are very deceiving, and should never be used to gauge risk factor. A blood test is the only form of confirmation. There are many folks, who believe that they have developed "AIDS symptoms", but later tested to be negative. The symptoms were in fact anxiety induced. e) Go and see your doctor about your Eczema. Topical corticosteroid creams should aid in the healing of your eczema. Oral antihistamines may reduce itch, and thus, aid healing. Your GP should also be able to conduct HIV blood tests for you. Or go to DSC clinic or AFA for STD/HIV testing to ease your mind.

The full result will be made know if you are infected with HIV after you do a real blood test. No point speculating. There is a skin condition affecting HIV patients call psoriasis - very very similar to Eczema and often mistaken. This condition affects patients with immuno-deficient resulting from HIV. As a result, these patients went to do alot of alternative treatments, like going to some kreta ayer skin specialist - but never quite recover. This is often very similar to Eczema and may well be misdiagnosed. If you suddenly have Eczema for no rhyme of reason, then you should be concerned - either from underpinning diseases or allergies. Some questions to ask yourself: 1) Did you have Eczema since young? 2) Did it occur only recently? 3) Did you eat something unusual? 4) Did you have a blood test to confirm? 5) Very important, did you assume you have Eczema or you have a medical opinion from a practising doctor? 6) Have you done a blood test, if you have had occassions of unsafer sexual practises? Hope these help. Take note of the last question to rule out HIV. Best wishes AfA outreach

Re: Eczema & HIV
Well, i just came back from the doc, i went to see the doc and told him that i had a slight uncomfort down south, he recommended me to take a urine test on the spot to test for STDs, lan lan, took it and instantly in abt 5mins the result showed normal nothing to worry about no infections whatsoever, most importantly he asked if i had unportected sex, told him no, he said shouldnb't be a problem then. Anyway, really shy to go see him as he's been my family doc since i was Pri Sch, fucking almost 20++ years, i think he also kinda shock that the boy who came to see him many years back for flu & cough now seeing him for STDs. He also told me that its all in the mind since my test turned negative. Asked if it was herpes, syphillis etc..... he said test result doesn't show.
My questions, can urine test be accurate for testing STDs? |
