SINGAPORE: Six opposition parties have hastily arranged a meeting on Saturday evening (Aug 1) to discuss plans after former National Solidarity Party (NSP) secretary-general Tan Lam Siong said he intends to contest Potong Pasir Single Member Constituency in the coming elections as an independent candidate.

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) chief Benjamin Pwee told TODAY that the parties going to tonight’s meeting are Singaporeans First Party, Singapore Democratic Alliance, Singapore People’s Party, People’s Power Party, NSP, and DPP.

On the agenda are the contests in Potong Pasir SMC and Tanjong Pagar Group Representation Constituency, said Mr Pwee. The ad-hoc meeting comes ahead of horse-trading talks among opposition parties scheduled on Monday.

So far, besides Mr Tan, the DPP and SPP have indicated interest in wresting back Potong Pasir from the People’s Action Party. Tanjong Pagar GRC, which was the only constituency uncontested in the 2011 General Election, is being eyed by the DPP and Reform Party.

What a joke! Elections have been predicted for like the longest time and even the ERBC report was out for so long... Now then they arrange a meeting to discuss? Also, former NSP guy is going to Potong Pasir to run as an INDEPENDENT.

If you notice, the WP is not attending the meeting cos they have no use for these clowns who just want to waste the electoral deposit.

Awhile ago a provision shop owner told me an issue about his ex PRC shop assistant. Dont get him wrong, he have no problem with that PRC young punk. He came to work for him less then two months, then ICA inform the owner his staff had produce a fake U degree.

I was suprised because that job dont need more then GCE O level, in our country content. So does the owner he was so long as his staff could do his jobs, education background is of no important. Even if the Opposition party gain enough seats and form a Govt with PAP, its something new that we all have to try. Just like how our fore fathers tried by putting PAP into power.

Even if Opposition screw up Singapore, it will only be 5yrs term before we can flush them out, how can any Singaporean say that without PAP Singapore will fail? True enough PAP built up Singapore, so does it mean one day if PAP does not exist means its the day Singapore ends as well?

Singapore and its people has matured, what we need is just a Govt that listens and not decides as and when they think or feel its right. If that's the case, we don't even need an election. Learn from CHINA, they Govt says it all.

In GE2011, Singaporeans displayed courage but of course not enough to shake the PAP up, the Govt listened initially and understood that there are unhappiness on the ground but just like normal Singaporeans, PAP Govt tend to be forgetful.

The time has come! GE2015 will be a turning point for Singapore politics. Singapore political landscape change and life defining moments lies in each vote, do not VOID votes. Do not bother whether the competing party has the ability to do the job, importantly think whether you want your life to be the same after GE2015?

I do agree with the saying "working with the devil you know rather than the devil you don't" but in this case, the devil you know has done the unthinkable to you since 1965, i would rather try the devil i don't, i have been thru hell and nothing seems to amaze me anymore, after all the devil i don't know has only 5 yrs to do me in.

There is nothing the people in power can divert from the truth. The blue and new pink IC people are taking pay cuts because they had no choice. Try this just to get the hang of the employment market. Go for a job interview the manager or employer will ask you to take a pay cut. The reason being many people come for that job. Rather ask for an off the text book reason.

It is FTs in the form of blue and pink ICs that reduce the expected salary. Plain speaking till now the people in power did not solve this bread and buttter issue. Or they do not wish to I dont know.

Fear Factor most likely coming from those elites who are scared shitty that their properties will take a plunge if there are a transition in power, and not because they prefer the current government.

Nicole Seah, National Solidarity Party’s candidate for Marine Parade GRC in General Election 2011 has confirmed that she is not running for this upcoming GE many assume will be happening in September 2015.

Seah said on Sunday that she is not rejoining the party and will not stand for election in response to queries from The Straits Times.

This was following comments from NSP acting secretary-general Hazel Poa that the party had “initiated contact” with her via WhatsApp.

However, Seah, 28, told ST: “I didn’t receive any message on WhatsApp from NSP. Perhaps they messaged my Singapore number which is not in use.”

“I’m not rejoining NSP and will not be running for elections this time.”

And according to Lianhe Zaobao (July 29), Seah had already indicated she will not contest, but does not rule out returning to Singapore to help some of the candidates during GE.

This election is really a benchmark test for PAP. If they maintain 60.1% I would say good job. But if they lose another Grc, I would say good job too.

I think if wp go tamp and east coast, they fucking good chance.
