Temperatures drop on popular mountaintops

Report from The Nation dated Tuesday 27 November 2007 :-

Temperatures drop on popular mountaintops

As temperatures dropped to five degrees Celsius on many mountaintops including Chiang Mai's Doi Inthanont and the winter season's first frost was spotted at Doi Ang Khang, visitors to the north were warned to wrap up well.

Northern weather forecaster, Pornnapa Thongthep said the high pressure system from China had extended its ridge to cover Thailand, causing some gusty rainfall in some places and cold weather with morning fog throughout the north. The temperature would continue to drop another 12 degrees for the next thee to four days.

The minimum temperature was 13 degrees and the maximum temperature was 15C, she said. However, it was very cold in the mountains with a minimum temperature of six to 10C, especially at the summit of Doi Inthanont in Chom Thong district that was measured yesterday morning at five degrees. She urged visitors to closely follow the weather reports and wear warm clothes.

The top of Doi Aang Khang in Fang district measured five degrees causing the first morning frost covering the field inside the Royal Project agriculture station.

Cold weather hits Chiang Rai areas

Report from Bangkok Post dated Friday 30 November 2007 :-

Cold weather hits Chiang Rai areas

Eighteen districts in the northern province of Chiang Rai are declared as cold-affected areas.

Chiang Rai governor Preecha Kamonbutr said villagers affected most from the cold weather are hill bribes, which account for 400,000 out of 1.3 million population in the province.

He added the provincial office has called on non-governmental organisations and private sectors to provide warm clothes and assistance to them.

The government provided 50 million baht for each province affected by the cold weather in order to assist villagers.

Re: Chiangmai

From March2008, Tiger Airways not flying to Chiang Mai anymore.
No more direct flight from SIN. the other options is SilkAir or take Tiger Airways to BKK and transfer to either Nokair, 2toGo ,Oriental Thai, which ever is cheaper.
very troublesome

This is indeed a bad new for people like me who like travel to CM. The next following trip will be more expensive & time consuming for me after this coming Jan's trip to CM.
