Re: Morning after pill

Some friendly medical advice for people who wish to take Morning After Pill.

1. Ask her if she got any drug allergies or not - if have which drug? As long as it is not one of the hormonal drugs
2. Make sure she is not pregnant - do urine pregnancy test or ask for the date of the last menses
3. SG got 2 approved Morning After Pills:
- Postinor - effective if taken within 3 days
Used to be 2 pills - 1 pill then another pill 12 hours later
But now new dosing guidelines say can take 2 pills at once

- Ella - effective if taken within 5 days
Just need to take 1 pill

4. Advice her on possible side effects
- Nausea
- Spotting
- Next period may be early or delayed
- Blood clots in the legs - especially if she smokes and/or is overweight/obese - if get leg pain (esp in calf) after taking the medicine please see Dr (this reaction can take up to 4 weeks) - but is rare
