Geylang's new coffeeshop trend -- open-air massages

Anew trend is apparently popping up at a coffeeshop in Geylang -- female masseuses giving massages to shirtless men in full view of the public.

On two seperate visits to the coffeeshop in Geylang Lorong 11, a reporter from The New Paper spotted three women, who looked to be in their 30s to 40s, giving massages to shirtless men who were seated at a table.

When the massage ended about 15 to 30 minutes later, the women reportedly moved on to the next table , looking for new clients in what appears to be a systematic approach with the trio keeping a space of about 10 tables between each other.

Nothing below the waist was removed.

One of the men who got a massage told the newspaper that he was having a "Vietnamese-style" massage for $10. His masseuse, when approached, smiled back but declined to offer a comment.

While this trend has bothered some -- a reader wrote in to the newspaper about his concerns over such sightings -- a stall assistant at the coffeeshop said that there was nothing she or her colleagues could do.

"As long as they don't distubrb other patrons, we won't tell them to stop," she said.
