bro,your thinking is correct,buy your house according to your own means.Caluculate how many years u need to return and best is before 55 years old clear as much as possible cos when once grow old,not much company want to employ.Dont buy an expensive one and drag till u old already still have not yet pay finish.
My wife dont compare which i think is a blessing for me.She will not come back and tell me why her friend so and so have this and that,why she dont have and why her friend husband have this and that and i dont have.
