Most chaps jump into a unname taxi or a VINAMET or VINAMETER taxi and that is the rip off!

I do agree with you 100% about the VINAMET taxis. They are a bunch of thieves.
Having said that, the comapny taxis, VINASUN, MAILINH Group etc etc do have drivers that are not very honest.
EG: I have experienced many times where by the taxi drivers now you are foreignor and they bring you sight-seeing. What should be a VND 40K taxi ride can turn out to be VND55K - 60K.
Or when you charge to the Corporate Card, a fare can be VND 51K and they round it up to VND 60K. I mean if they do it to 55K it is still acceptable. I once had a driver from VINASUN who added an additional VND19K to the bill. He thought I was drunk and since it was late, I wouldnt notice. When I saw it and asked him why, he just smiled at me. I tore the receipt up and wrote the new one myelf.
The good thing about the COmpany Taxis is that should you face any problems with the drivers, you just have to record down the Taxi Number which is usually located on the top corner of the glass infront of the Front Passenger seat and then give a call to the taxi company
