Its very simple in Hanoi. Use Hanoi Taxis 048535353. When you require a taxi, call 5 minutes before you need to leave. Allow up to 30 min when raining heavily. All operators can speak english. If you have trouble pronouncing your street name hand your phone (being careful) to a vietnamese who can talk with the operator on your your behalf. Where ever you go in hanoi (restaurant, spa, massage, hotel etc) they are always willing to call a taxi on your behalf. Insist on Hanoi Taxi, they are the most reliable, have relatively friendly drivers. The price, 15,000VND for the first 1.5km, then 11,500 VND for every km after that. There are cheaper taxis out there, but they are hard to find, often very small, and the driver will take you around in circles and they will not speak one word of English. Any of the 5* hotels will always have them on stand by.
