I long to find one yam cake stall that can match the one I had in Hong Kong and I remembered 根叔 near my old neighborhood. His fried beehoon is slightly gravy wet 焖米粉 and different from the usual Cha Bee Hoon with lots of added anchovies and cabbage. It is not salty nor oily. Yam cake 芋头糕 is not as soft as the Hong Kong version but soft enough. It also has sweet and chilli sauce while the HK version is just soya sauce. Price $2.50-$3 Cheap and good enough for me...
They do a bit of upselling whenever possible to peddle other stuff from his stall.

Lamenting over the lack of descendants to succeed his business, he said he is expected to lose this skill for good. But he did have 2 disciples that prospered in Penang when they ventured on their own.

I would say I will try the porridge the next time I am there. He also advised me to pick up the 年糕 during Chinese New Year.
