We watched Safwan prepare the Sweet Soy Sauce Grilled Beef ($10) right in the kitchen. Markings from the grill branded the meat with lines of dark char, and the whole thing was caramelised beautifully. Watching the whole process made it even more alluring.

Before Chef Chik opened his hawker stall, he was the executive chef of Wan Hao Cantonese restaurant in Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. He served a short sentence for receiving kickbacks from a seafood supplier in exchange for buying their seafood. After his incarceration, Chef Chik opened this stall with his wife, Joanne. In the beginning, life was hard for both of them. Because they only had each other, it made running the stall even more challenging.
