Being a huge fan of Nasi Kandar, I have always wondered how Ipoh’s famous Nasi Ganja would compare to my personal favorites in Penang.
So during my last trip to Ipoh I made it a point to eat here no matter what. The official name for the nasi kandar stall is actually ‘Perniagaan Nasi Kandar Ayam Merah’ and they operate at a Chinese owned coffee shop called Yong Suan.

Wah Yong Suan Coffee Shop is legend weh. But super long que! Best to tapau rather than eating there and also go during non peak hours!

The portion of the Hor Fun with Egg ($6) was relatively huge, and the dish can be shared by 2 pax. I’ve been eating wah tan hor since I was a child, and I’ve always liked the slippery egg in the gravy. Hoy Yong’s wah tan hor came with a considerable amount of wok hei. The prawns were especially crunchy and sweet while the fish slices were fresh. I loved the thick gravy which coated the splendidly-charred flat rice noodles. Now, I get what the hype was all about.

The Sour Spicy Pork Ribs ($16), which was recommended, was not fantastic. Similar to the typical sweet and sour pork dish

Hoy Yong’s Deep-fried Duck Roll ($12).
