MCA minister's sexual escapade' caught on tape

(New Straits Times) - A minister has been linked to a sex scandal following the emergence of DVDs showing a couple in a bedroom romp.

The man in the DVDs is said to resemble a senior MCA politician from Johor.

Police have started an investigation into the distribution of the DVDs in several places, including Muar and Batu Pahat.

Johor police chief Datuk Hussin Ismail said police were investigating the matter under Section 292 of the Penal Code for distribution of obscene materials.

The discs were reportedly dropped into the postboxes of selected houses and shops in Muar and Batu Pahat. Residents found the discs on Sunday morning.

The name of the minister involved is said to have been written on the DVD cover.

"We have reason to suspect that the discs contain pornographic material and, as such, it is an offence to either possess or distribute them," Hussin said.

Those found guilty under Section 292 may face a jail term of up to three years, a fine or both.

"I urge those who have received the discs to come forward and inform the police."

A New Straits Times reader who had watched the two DVDs called to describe the video recording.

According to him, the movements, build and complexion of the man in the DVDs resembled that of a prominent Johor politician.

The first disc, which is 60 minutes long, consists of four different angles of a single black and white recording of what appears to be a hotel room.

The second disc is an enlargement of the high angle above the bed. It is not known who made the recordings.

The reader claimed he found the DVDs in his letterbox on Sunday morning.

Chinese newspaper Kwong Wah Yit Poh reported yesterday that its Seremban office received a copy of the DVD in an envelope. There was no stamp on the envelope.

Meanwhile, MCA president Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting yesterday declined to comment on the matter.

Attempts to contact other senior MCA leaders also drew a blank. Calls to MCA secretary-general Datuk Ong Ka Chuan, Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek and Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Dr Fong Chan Onn went unanswered.

A political aide to an MCA central committee member said: "For now, it still seems confined to rumours."

An aide to another party leader said: "Maybe after today, (the central committee members) will have a clearer picture of the situation."

Johor Barisan Nasional chief Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, repeatedly said: "I don't know, I don't know. Really? Is that right? I don't know how to respond."

Johor MCA liaison deputy chairman Tan Kok Hong said: "I do not know anything."

Former MCA vice-president Datuk Chua Jui Meng said: "I don't know about any of this."

Chua: I’m the one in sex video

Health Minister Chua Soi Lek today openly admitted that he was the person featured in a video depicting a man having sex with a woman purportedly in a hotel room.

Chua, 60, who is also MCA vice-president, made the confession at a press conference this afternoon in his parliamentary constituency in Labis, Johor.

However, he said that he will not resigned as minister but will instead let Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to decide on his fate.

The senior MCA leader, who is married with three children, also said that the 30-something woman featured in the video clip was a "personal friend".

“I am the man in the tape. The girl is a personal friend,” said Chua.

He emphasised that he did not make the tape himself.

“Who have done this is not important. What is most important is that my family, wife and children have accepted my apology,” he added.

Chua said he had met with Abdullah as well as Deputy Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and MCA president Ong Ka Ting to “personally apologised to them”.

“I appeal to the press to give me and my family some space during this difficult time.”

Wife backs Chua

Over the past three days, the Chinese dailies have reported that free DVDs - allegedly showing the politician in various sexual antics with a woman - were first distributed in Muar and later, Batu Pahat and Seremban.

The scandal first broke on Saturday when copies of the DVD were anonymously placed in various streets in Muar town for people to collect. Some copies were even distributed by unknown individuals to a number of shops in the area.

Meanwhile, Chua’s wife Wong Sek Hin released a statement in support of his embattled husband in the wake of the sex video scandal.

She said that Chua had apologised to her and the family for his sexual indiscretion.

“It is a difficult time for all of us but we have accepted his regret and apology,” she added.

“He has been a good husband, father and family man who have never shirked his responsibilities.

“We know that it will be difficult during this time but we will go through this together as a family and will support him.”

Two video clips

According to those who have watched the tape, there were two separate DVDs depicting the alleged sex act purportedly recorded using closed circuit television (CCTV).

The first DVD lasting 56 minutes showed the entire sexual act from four different camera angles showing the bed, main door and living room.

Labelled as ‘(name of politician deleted) rapes and threatens woman’, a man can be seen walking into a room believed to be in a hotel and engages in sex with apparently a woman in her 30s.

Meanwhile, the second disc lasting 44 minutes was labelled ‘(name of politician deleted) sex video’ and featured the same sex act from a sole stationary camera that zoomed on the bed.

The couple can be seen in the video speaking in the Hokkien dialect.

The video clip begins with the alleged politician in the room taking a shower and changing clothes. A woman later knocks on the door and is seen entering the room. The couple appears to know each other.

The video then shows the woman taking out a laptop and placed it on the bed, and then going into the bathroom and emerging later naked.

The woman then performs oral sex on the alleged politician and this is followed by sexual intercourse on bed. The couple appears to be watching something on the laptop during their sexual act.

Long political career

Chua, a trained psychologist, began his medical career as a government doctor in 1974 before moving into private practice two years later.

Chua, who hailed from Johor, was first elected state assemblyman for Penggaram in his home state in 1986. He held the state seat for 18 years – winning it in four consecutive general elections.

He was a Johor executive councilor for 14 years from 1990 to 2004.

He moved to federal-level politics at the 2004 general elections when he was picked to run for Labis, a parliamentary constituency near Segamat which was vacated by outgoing MCA chief Dr Ling Liong Sik.

He was also picked by Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi as health minister, a much-coveted cabinet post, soon after the general elections.

From there, Chua moved up the party hierarchy at lighting speed – he bagged the second highest number of votes to become one of the party’s four vice-presidents in 2005.

Sex DVDs of ‘politician’ out in Johor

MUAR: Two DVDs showing a man resembling a prominent senior politician, and a woman engaging in various sexual antics, are being widely circulated in Tangkak, Batu Pahat and here.

The DVDs are believed to be closed-circuit television (CCTV) recordings in a hotel suite. However, the hotel’s location and the date of the recording are not known.

It is learnt that the first DVD lasting 56 minutes has footage of four different camera angles of the hotel suite – the bed, living area, entrance to the bathroom and the main door. It purportedly shows the man and woman entering the room separately.

The second DVD lasting 44 minutes is said to show the couple engaged in sex acts on the bed.

Those who claim to have seen the two DVDs said they were convinced the man in the DVDs was the prominent politician based on his gait and mannerisms.

The existence of the DVD was first reported in the Chinese dailies on Sunday while a Bahasa Malaysia daily reported about it yesterday.

News of the two DVDs are also being circulated widely on the Internet, adding to the controversy.

Sources said the lurid DVDs were now difficult to obtain, as those holding them fear that the police would act against those distributing and being in possession of the DVDs.

The DVDs, with the name of the politician on them, were first reportedly left at various locations in Muar on Saturday for people to pick up. Some copies were also said to be distributed to shops in the town.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said no police report had been lodged yet over the DVDs.

“However, I urge the reporter with the newspaper that initially broke the story to come forward. We need to know how he came across the DVD,” he told TV3.

Bernama quoted Batu Pahat district chief Asst Comm Ibrahim Mohd Aris as advising those in possession of the DVDs to surrender them to the authorities.

He warned that anyone found in possession of the DVDs or caught distributing copies of them could be charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code and sentenced to three years' jail or fined, or both.

Chua was the vice-president of the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA), a key component of the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO)-led government coalition.
